Supportive Apartment Living Transition Program (SALT)

To provide a supportive housing program in order to allow homeless youth the opportunity to learn the skills needed for responsible and independent living while job training and/or attending school.

WHO CAN APPLY

Male and female youth age 16-21 years who meet the following criteria etc:

  • Motivated to participate in a secondary school program. Futures or Alternative Training Program.

Plus one or more of the following:

  • Have no home or at risk of becoming homeless.
  • Cannot live with their family.
  • May have successfully completed a placement in a group home, foster home or residential treatment facility.
  • Are living in a marginal situation without appropriate adult support or in an unacceptable environment.
  • Pregnant.

INTAKE PROCEDURE

The referral process consists of an interview with an intake worker from the program to obtain all necessary background information to determine acceptablility. This is followed by an intake interview at Social Services to assess the eligibility for Ontario Student Works.

Once this process has been completed all you need is to bring your personal belongings and a willingness to change your life's direction.
